Cerpovicz Wins Young GA Authors Competition

Anita Cerpovicz won first place in the First District RESA Young Georgia Authors competition with her composition entitled The Unusual Incident.

Fine Arts Knight at WJMS

On May 15th, the WJMS Fine Arts department presented "Fine Arts Knight" to showcase student artwork with a literature and movie theme. As guests viewed the displays, the WJMS band performed excerpts from different movies. Check out the highlights of the event.

Orvis Advances to State Geo Bee

Seventh grader, Jameson Orvis will represent WJMS at the state-level National Geographic Bee on March 30th at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville. Jameson qualified as a state finalist by taking a 70-question test and earning one of the top scores in the state. He will compete against other intermediate and middle school geography students for the chance to go to Washington, D.C., to represent Georgia in the National Bee.

WJMS Odyssey of the Mind Teams Win

The William James Odyssey of Mind teams did very well in their competition and are headed to state finals in Columbus on April 14th.  The Odyssey Angels team came in third place and the Weird Science team took first place.

WJMS Math Team Wins 1st Place

The 7th and 8th grade math team participated in the Georgia Southern University  Math Tournament on Saturday, February 11th. The group won the 1st place overall trophy as well as four students placed in the top ten in the individual competition.

WJMS Students Win at Tech Fair

Congratulations to all the winners in Bulloch County's Regional Student Technology Fair which took place on Saturday, January 21st. In the 12 categories, WJMS students won eight awards. All 1st place winners will advance to the state competition on March 10th.

Smith Wins WJMS Spelling Bee

WJMS held its annual Spelling Bee on Thursday, January 19th in the media center. Out of the twelve finalists, 7th grader Tayler Smith won the competition with 6th grader, Rebecca Fu coming in second place. Tayler will advance to the county-level competition.

QUEST Team Wins District Stock Market Game

The Georgia Council for Economic Education has announced that William James Middle School’s Eighth-Grade QUEST students have won the Bulloch County Schools District Stock Market Game for the third year in a row.  There were 90 Bulloch County teams comprised of fourth through twelfth-grade students from elementary, middle and high schools.  “WJMS had twenty-three teams participate, and their performance earned them nine of the top-ten spots and 13 of the top-20 spots,” said Dr. Emerson Chester, WJMS QUEST instructor.

Chess Team Takes 1st

Congratulations to the WJMS Chess Team who won 1st place in the Ogeechee River Scholastic Chess Association tournament held on September 24th. Team members are Ethan Reddick, Noah Caplinger, Caleb Deal, Jordan Robbins, and Justin White.

Gelli Baff for WJMS Faculty

Volunteer faculty members participated in an event this week to celebrate reaching the Accelerated Reader school goal of 26,000 points. Top readers were able to dump a Gelli Baff mixture on their teachers. The student body did an awesome job reading this year; earning almost 53,000 points.

WJMS Celebrates Read Across America

Celebrate the joy in reading and help us wish Dr. Seuss a happy 108th birthday during Read Across America this week. Read Across America, sponsored by the National Education Association, is an annual national reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading around the date of  March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss. Check out the activities going on this week to help in the celebration:


Student Artwork on Public Display

Everyone is encouraged to visit the Averitt Center for the Arts in downtown Statesboro to see WJMS student artwork on public display. An opening reception for the event was held on September 2nd but the exhibit will be open through the month of September. All galleries are open and free to the public Tuesday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Make sure to stop by to see some amazing student artwork produced in Mrs. Autumn Horton's class.
